How can I tell if I REALLY have a transmission problem? This is a question that arises in everyone's mind. Before I take my car to a transmission shop, is there was a way to tell if I really have a transmission problem? I'm afraid once I take it to a transmission shop, they will find a problem and sell me a transmission. We thought it would be helpful to our customers to put together common signs that you have a transmission problem.

1. The obvious, the vehicle will not move.
2. The check engine or transmission light is "ON" and the vehicle starts out in a high gear and does not shift.
3. You check the transmission fluid and it smells "burnt" or is brown in color and the vehicle has problems shifting.
4. The overdrive light is flashing.
